A few more spring storms on April 12th and 15th, giving us an additional 4.25" of snow, 1" of ice and over 4" of rain so far, as the storm rivals that of the monster Mothers Day storm of 2007. A spring storm snuck up on us, adding 9.25" of heavy/wet snow. Branches/limbs are down and power was on and off several times. Another named storm fell on March 17th, with a little over 11" of the white stuff falling, ending again as freezing precip. Those who didn't clear their driveways and walkways soon enough ended up with a heavy, messy mix. A light fluffy snowfall brought 2.0" on 2/23, most of it melting the next day. The Valentines Day storm of 2007 brings heavy snow and ice accumulations! Approximately 11.75" of snow and 1-2" of ice fell. I have not calculated the compression factor from the ice, but it certainly kept the end total down. What we actually see on the ground is less than that. The breakdown is as follows: April 4th 9.25" March 17th 11.25" March 7th 5.25" February 23rd 2.00" February 14th 11.75" (Plus ice) February 3rd 3.25" December 8th 1.50" January 15th 1.25 (Ice storm, which doesn't count against total inches). January 23rd 1.50" January 27th 0.50" As you can see, we have had few big storms to date, well below the season average. Most of the amounts are just from cold fronts as they moved quickly through the area, brining a little snow with them. The ski resorts have had tough sledding as it has been even too warm to make artificial snow, until recently. Most of the large wet storms to move through the area have brought unseasonably mild temperatures with them. That trend has changed since the beginning of February as colder than normal temperatures have persisted.
